Two granite slabs with the same name can look like different stones, and a marble’s best veining may sit in the corner that gets cut away for the sink. That is why our showroom on Tile Row keeps full slabs standing for viewing, and why we would rather you pick the slab than the color name.
City Tile & Cabinets has supplied, fabricated, and installed natural stone out of our showroom at 1535 S State College Blvd since 1998. The shop is one mile from Angel Stadium and 3.5 miles from Disneyland. We cut, edge, and polish every countertop in house and install it with our own crew.

The U.S. Geological Survey tracks this category as dimension stone, the industry term for stone quarried and cut into blocks and slabs rather than crushed. Granite, limestone, marble, and slate make up most of it.
How to Choose a Slab
See the whole slab. Color distribution, veining, and background tone change across a slab. Look at it from across the room and up close.
Bring your other materials. Hold a cabinet door, a floor tile, and a paint chip against the stone under the same light. A stone that looks warm next to white cabinets can look pink next to gray ones.
Plan the seams. Large islands and L-shaped runs often need two slabs. We lay out the cuts on the slab with you before fabrication so the veining flows where you want it and the seams fall where they are least visible.
Match the stone to the work. If you cook with citrus and wine, marble will etch. If that bothers you, quartzite gives a similar look with more resistance. If you like a lived-in patina, marble is a beautiful choice.
Fabrication and Installation, All in House
We template your space once cabinets are set, then cut, edge, and polish the stone in our shop. Most countertops are fabricated within one to two weeks of templating and installed in a single day. Stone floors take more care than manufactured tile, because natural thickness varies piece to piece and each one has to be set to the same height to avoid lippage.

Sealing and Daily Care
Most natural stone needs periodic sealing to resist stains. Granite typically needs it every one to three years, quartzite every one to two, and marble and limestone more often. A simple test: put a few drops of water on the surface. If it darkens within a few minutes, it is time to reseal. Use pH-neutral cleaners on all stone; vinegar and many bathroom cleaners will dull marble and limestone.

What is the most durable natural stone for kitchen countertops?
Quartzite and granite. Quartzite resists etching better than marble and is very hard; granite handles heat and scratches well. Marble is softer and etches from acids.
What is the difference between quartzite and quartz?
Quartzite is a natural stone. Quartz countertops are engineered from crushed quartz and resin. Quartzite has natural variation and needs sealing; engineered quartz is uniform and needs none.
Does natural stone need sealing?
Most does. Granite every one to three years, quartzite every one to two, marble and limestone more often. Slate rarely needs it.
Can I pick the exact slab?
Yes. We keep full slabs at the showroom and reserve the one you choose for fabrication.
Can natural stone be used on a bathroom floor?
Yes. Travertine and slate are popular for their texture and grip. Polished marble is better on walls and vanities than on wet floors.
How long does fabrication and installation take?
Fabrication usually takes one to two weeks after templating, and most countertops are installed in a single day.
